Going into October 2017 – News
Dear Parents/Guardians and Glenwood Community members.
It’s been a hectic September, but we loved every minute!
Coming up this week:
Monday Sept. 25 – non-instructional day – no classes in session
Tuesday Sept. 26 – return SIGNED AND UPDATED WHERE NECESSARY student verification forms to your child’s teacher
Wednesday Sept. 27 –
- Terry Fox Run
Thursday Sept. 28 –

- Orange shirt day –
“Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis’ story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually.
The date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools, and because it is an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies for the coming school year. It also gives teachers time to plan events that will include children, as we want to ensure that we are passing the story and learning on to the next generations.
Orange Shirt Day is also an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.” (www.orangeshirtday.org)

Communication:
I trust that the “in real time” Tweets that go out on our website and Facebook serve their purpose of getting information to you immediately. One doesn’t HAVE to use Twitter OR Facebook to see these quick snippets. All one needs to do, is look at our Glenwood Elementary Website and there, in the bottom right corner these short bursts of information will appear. I have spoken to PAC about the platforms of communication and trust that all our parents/guardians get information and communication: Twitter, Facebook, Website, Newsletters on the website and via the portal.
Additional important information:
CONGESTION:
- Reminder to use the outside door to your child’s classroom for pick-up; it will reduce congestion in the hallways.
- Reminder too NOT TO PARK AND LEAVE YOUR CAR IN THE DROP OFF FIRE LANE.
- There is a ONE-WAY traffic flow in our very tight parking space.
- Please, do not park in HANDICAPPED PARKING STALLS without a permit. A parking permit for people with disabilities ensures that when a person has mobility limitations, they can park in one of the designated parking spots throughout British Columbia. People with mobility limitations are entitled to a permit even if they do not own a vehicle. As long as the parking permit holder is either driving or being transported in the vehicle, a valid parking permit may be displayed on the rear-view mirror when the vehicle is parked in a designated spot.
- Parents are reminded that visiting a teacher’s class for whatever reason, is discouraged during instructional time. PLEASE, STOP BY THE OFFICE FIRST.
