Please watch for an orange brochure in your child’s backpack informing you of the Fall selection of After School Programs. Programs are offered three times per year, Fall, Winter and Spring running for either 4-6 weeks, our first set will start the beginning of October. Registration information can be found in the brochure, if your child requires extra support in the classroom please contact Drea Owen prior to registration to ensure the program will be a good fit. - NEWS ABOUT THE REDESIGNED CURRICULUM:
How has the curriculum been redesigned & how does this benefit student learning?
The BC curriculum has been redesigned to support the changing world students are entering. The redesigned curriculum is student-centered and flexible, maintains a focus on literacy and math skills, and includes Aboriginal perspectives.
So how and what will your child be learning? Each month in our school newsletter we will highlight a key feature of the redesigned curriculum and share stories about how this feature is being implemented in your child’s classroom. We will also tell you about why these skills and abilities will help your child succeed.
For more information about the new curriculum, visit http://www.sd42.ca/new-curriculum.
MORE INFORMATION TO FOLLOW!
Coming in October – Competencies: Core vs. Curricular.
- NEWS ABOUT CLASS PLACEMENTS:
The much-anticipated class placements have taken place and the children are settling into their new classrooms nicely.
The process of organizing classes is a complex one. The staff have spent many hours and have made all the decisions with thought and care. The following are some of the criteria we follow when making decisions:
- Individual learning styles, strengths and needs,
- Social and personal characteristics
- Balance of boys and girls
- Ministry of Education class size and compositions requirements
- Peer relationships
- Enrolment changes
- Parent input
We are confident in the decisions made this year and are excited to move forward with our new learning communities. While social groupings are considered, new groupings allow children to have a wider circle of friends.
Resiliency is a skill built by experiences, and we understand that some children may feel disappointment. Acknowledge their feelings and help them to move forward in a positive way by encouraging them.
If you have any concerns about your child’s placement, please speak with your child’s teacher about your child’s strengths, needs and interests.
- THE COTTAGE:
Our portable is in, but we are waiting for occupancy clearance. As soon as we know more, we will inform you. In the mean time, thank you for your patience and thank you to Ms Hough for her flexibility and ingenuity.
- COMMUNICATION
It has come to our attention that news going out on the website / Twitter and/or Facebook needs to be supplemented with emails going out on the portal.
Most of the news in this Additional Newsletter of September was sent out already, so we apologize if some of the news, is ‘old’ news, so to speak.
Thank you again for your patience with the portal.
We will ensure the news go out on FOUR platforms:
Newsletter monthly
Facebook and our
Website.
We trust this would suffice to keep all informed.
Have a great day.
